A Dom and His Writer
by Xenia Melzer
Life is perfect for Richard and Dean. Richard is a wealthy and successful businessman who also owns a BDSM club, and Dean is a best-selling author and sub to Richard. They’re young, happy, and in love. The future is bright….
Until tragedy strikes and an accident claims Dean’s beloved sister. Dean finds himself the guardian of a three-month-old infant, and soon he’s trading in his leather fetish gear for diapers and drool bibs. But little Emily is all that remains of his family, so how can he abandon her?
It’s not what Richard signed up for. As much as he tries to be supportive, he never wanted kids and misses having his partner to himself. Suddenly the life he imagined for them is gone, and he’s not sure their relationship can survive the upheaval. But fate isn’t through with Dean, and when misfortune strikes again, will he be able to turn to the man he loves? A final crisis will determine if they can pull together as a family or must face facts and part ways.

The story of Master Richard and his boy Dean begins as a kinky fairytale. Both are successful men in their own right, Richard owning several successful and exclusive gay(male only) BDSM clubs worldwide and Dean quite a successful author. Their five year relationship is the envy of all their friends and acquaintances both in and out of the lifestyle.
Everything is blissful until tragedy strikes and upends every part of their day to day lives. With the swirl of emotions, lack of communication, and even miscommunication the fairytale spirals into a nightmare until their beautiful bond is left in a virtual coma with no signs of life. If Richard and Dean can’t mend this soon, what was once an amazing love affair will be a distant memory.
I fell in love with Melzer’s writing after just a couple pages and found myself devouring the story and investing in the lives of the characters after the first few chapters.
The characters were multidimensional, even the fur-characters. Even though I personally would never run in the same circles in REAL life…A) because my bank account is like a happy meal and Richard and Dean’s are like the entire Mc D’s restaurant in comparison and B) I lack the proper plumbing, they were still very relatable because no matter what, everyone struggles. Richard and Dean’s struggles were real and I felt them as the words bled from each page.
I also fell in love with all the friends and Richard’s dad, Aaron. The characters introduced shared some of their stories and I am taking those as lead ins for the following books in the series. I’m crossing my fingers anyway.
The book has plenty of kinky steam as well as just good old fashioned lovin’. The HEA is epic, as my sons would say, and left me excited to see what happens in the next book.
