MMy Thoughts and Review:

I love surprises. Not to be confused with jump scares, adrenaline rushes, and things of that nature. Good surprises like picking up a book, thinking you are getting a nice little romance with a bit of kink tossed in to spice it up only to find you’ve opened a book filled with a whole lot more than just a sweet little love story.
I think the Universe is trying to broaden my horizons more. This is the second sci-fi book I have read so far this year, and we are just in January.
There are a whole lot of different things going on all around the story of our MCs, Cut, an earth born bartender who now lives in the Dome and Samson a first generation colonist who came from money and was now a business owner of restaurants and food take-away boxes.
As the two are working around the dynamics of their budding D/s relationship, things within the Dome affecting the energy and how long businesses can be open and people out of their homes causes a few problems regarding curfews and that dips into Cut’s job as a bartender.
With each new problem or stressor that pops up, Cut and Samson find a way through until one mega stressor/ problem comes to town that leaves both men wondering if they have what it takes to make their relationship work. Cut worries their financial backgrounds are so different he can never give Samson what he needs, while Samson worries Cut will grow weary of his neediness and run.
The author does a good job of dispersing the stress and stressful scenarios so it isn’t always one character over the other tossing down the victim card. Lupin is also good at showing each MC in turn as the pillar of strength in the relationship, holding the other up, when needed. Stories tend to get old really fast when one MC is constantly having to save or protect the other.
As stated earlier, there was quite a lot going on in the story, but not a lot was explained for each thing taking place. The author could have done this as a means of opening the world of the Dome for more stories. If so, then there are only one of two directions he could go in keeping with the current character arc. BUT, an artist and their muse can be funny things sometimes. So we shall wait and see.
If you like different places created off world, in a different time to come, different cultures, and way of life, but only on the surface. Where underneath everything is exactly the same as they have been since time began. Where humans are still ruled by their base needs, wants, and desires, then this is one story you won’t want to miss.
It’s a sci-fi fantasy adventure with friendship and a kinky relationship turned romance with a chaotic mix of harried family drama tossed in to keep the MCs fighting and their eyes on the prize.

Excerpt
Samson shifted his gaze to Cut, scanning him from boots to the dark blue locs on the crown of his head. Cut shifted, smoothing out invisible creases in his jeans before Samson said, โYou look good to me.โ
He seemed so sure; Cut felt he had to trust him on this. At least, if he was wrong, theyโd get thrown out together. Nothing took the sting out of embarrassment quite like sharing it.
Samson stood aside and Cut preceded him into the restaurant, but then he scampered on ahead to talk to the host, making the whole exercise useless. They whispered among themselves, giving Cut ample time to verify that his ass was just as amazing in jeans as dress pants, before the host escorted them to a secluded corner meant for a party of six or more. The other patrons had enough class to pretend that their meals and conversations were more engrossing than the out of place strangers getting a whole section to themselves.
His anxiety subsiding as they took their seats allowed Cut to take things in properly. He saw the wire brush marks on the metal of the sconces that illuminated the room. When he flicked his gaze up, he saw the hand turned wires on the ornaments hanging from the chandeliers. On the glasses, the stems were so delicate and thin, yet when he picked up his to test that theory, it didnโt feel fragile in the hand. Everything was so refined and well-made in a way that made him feel small and cheap. But heโd push through it for now.
Cut claimed the bench against the wall, preferring to see anything coming his way, while Samson took the chair across from him, his back to the rest of the dining room. He shrugged out of his jacket and set it beside him. Cut took Samsonโs when he divested himself of it and did the same. Samson picked up the thin tablet that served as the menu and swiped through it. Cut gave an appreciative glance to those wide shoulders and the bit of collarbone peeking out from the open neck of Samsonโs shirt before turning his gaze down to his own menu.
โI recommend anything but the fish. Issues with the suppliers. The beef is very good, though.โ
โYou really know your stuff.โ Of course someone like Samson came here regularly. A high class spot for a high class guy. Cut carefully sipped water from an elegant crystal glass.
Samson put down the tablet, grinned. โI should. I own the place.โ
Water dribble down Cutโs chin when he nearly choked on it. He quickly mopped it up with his sleeve. It was better his stubble got a little wet than spraying Samsonโs face.
โYou own this whole place? By yourself?โ
โI hope you donโt mind me showing off a little. Everything you get will be gratis, of course. So go nuts. I needed you to know that I really can pay whatever you ask. Iโm serious about this.โ
Cut moved to the edge of his seat. Just because no one was blatantly watching didnโt mean they werenโt listening. โExplain what you mean by this? I have an idea, but weโve got to be on the same page.โ
โO-of course.โ Samson wet his own lips with a little water.
He seemed a little flustered. That was the last thing Cut wanted.
โWhy donโt you start from the beginning?โ
โItโs a bit much to say over the table.โ But it had to be said. If they didnโt have honest, open communication from the beginning, there was no point in starting at all.
But if Samson had concerns about being overheard, Cut had a simple solution. He scooted over on the bench. โJoin me. Thereโs plenty of room on this side.โ
Samson froze and swallowed so hard Cut swore he heard it. He thought that might have been a step too far, but Samson came around to his side of the table, and they sat hip-to-hip. The cushion was wide enough to accommodate both of them with room to spare. A server rushed over and repositioned Samsonโs place setting before disappearing as quickly as they came.
There was that scent again, sweet and thickened by Samsonโs natural aroma. Cut was suddenly aroused and uncomfortable. He shifted to adjust his cock into a more comfortable position, and his thigh brushed against Samsonโs. The bigger man snapped his leg away for an instant before he relaxed again. Somehow, knowing he was nervous too helped Cut relax. Maybe too much.
He rested a hand on Samsonโs knee and squeezed. When he realized what heโd done, Cut pulled away and set both his hands on the table.
โSo,โ he coughed. โLetโs start with the alley and why you were there.โ

About the Author
Stories longing to have words put to them were in Jetโs heart from an early age. Jet enjoys exploring the connections and similarities between people whether they be shifters, vampires, or aliens, rendering the unknowable very knowable indeed.
Jetโs days are spent toiling away at a keyboard, slumped over a pen and paper hunting for those words, or playing around on twitter with a partner, and two rambunctious cats for company in the temperamental North Eastern US.
