There’s nothing like being blackmailed by a dead man to really bring a group of cons together. And what a group we are: a hacker, a thief, a con artist, a thug, and a Federal agent with an axe to grind. The deal is simple, we do the jobs and Charlie’s lawyer wipes the slate clean for each of us, one at a time.
Since job number one calls for some muscle, it looks like I’m up first. I’m Steele Alvarez, ex-Special Forces Close Protection Specialist (aka, a bodyguard for some not so nice guys).
After learning what the job is — taking down a seemingly untouchable senator with a penchant for beating up young male prostitutes — I’m in. No questions. A bullet ought to do the trick.
Then I met Senator Harlan’s latest victim: Breck Pfeiffer, the gorgeous hooker with a heart of gold and the soul of a fighter. One look at him and I’m gone. That kid laid me out harder than any punch ever did. I’ll do anything to protect Breck, even kill for him. But Breck doesn’t want the senator dead, he wants vengeance.
If we’re going to find a way to bring down the slimebag and get the blackest mark on my record erased, I’m going to need all the help I can get.
Like it or not, we’re all in this together.

MMy Thoughts and Review:
A story about a ragtag group of men who for one reason or another gave a professional blackmailer… ”professional information gatherer,” cause to gather information on each of them.
After the passing of the Pro Info-G, the men are told if they team up to finish a few of the dead man’s jobs they will each be given back the information gathered on them. **Someone pass that chick a thesarus. She’s used the word “gather” more times than a gaggle of geese on an egg hunt…😂😂😂
While this had all the parts present to be a really good Ocean’s Eleven group type dynamically charged story, (think original with “The Rat Pack,”) it felt like part of the chemistry was off.
Some of that I think had to do with two narrators’ voices not blending well with one another. One narrator had one of the MC’s voice’s kind of subtle and medium pitched and the other made him sound like he’d smoked three packs of Lucky Strikes a day since Kennedy was in office, even though the young man was barely twenty-two.
I actually read along with the book after a while when this particular MC’s POV/chapter would start.
Overall the story was okay, definitely worth a read if you like character groups, which are my favorite, where two characters become the main focus in each story.
The Story: 4.00⭐
The Narration: 3.00⭐
Overall: 3.50✨

There’s nothing like being blackmailed by a dead man to really bring a group of cons together. The deal is simple, we do the jobs and Charlie’s lawyer wipes the slate clean for each of us, one at a time.
Job number two lands right in my lap. I’m Bond. Wesley Bond. (I can’t resist saying it that way. Blame my dad, if you can find him.) You could call me a hacker. I redistribute wealth – moving it from rich slimebags to poorer but infinitely more deserving people – and make a tidy profit as I do. My mission, should I choose to accept it, is to bring down some modern-day slave traders.
With the life of the one person in this world I love on the line, I can’t afford any screw-ups or distractions. Unfortunately, my biggest distraction is my biggest asset – Danny Monroe. Danny is a leftover complication from our first job. He’s a smart, funny, gorgeous ex-prostitute, who can’t seem to keep his clothes on. I can’t seem to keep my mouth shut around him. But I need a fake boyfriend, and Danny is the only option.
We don’t know who the bad guy is; we have no idea how to prove anything. If I’m going to do this, I’m going to need all the help I can get. Like it or not, we’re all in this together.

MMy Thoughts and Review
Well, I must say typically, it is the sequel in a series that must work hardest to keep up the momentum a series needs to survive. Very early on, it became apparent to me that not only had the characters in the book found a relatable groove for themselves and each other, but so had the narrators.
There were a couple of times when it seemed things were forced and uncomfortable, much like I imagine it would feel for a politician to tell the truth at a press conference. However, that was only the case for about ten percent of the book. For the other ninety percent, the reader got to experience a fun action dramedy filled with excellent one-liners, precocious children who may have learned how to conquer small countries, silver fox bartenders sporting shimmery bootie shorts, and hackers and hookers finding happily ever afters…hopefully. Dang all this H’s would have made Professor Henry Higgins proud even in Hartford, Hereford, and Hampshire.☔
I found myself chuckling out loud more than once at all the snark and back and forth between the guys as they attempted to uncover the secrets of a tropical island resort. What seems to be a human trafficking racket at first glance turned out to be something altogether different, though strangely relative. I was quite intrigued and found myself bookmarking places to go back to and learn a little about this. Humankind is in desperate need of some compassion.
Needless to say, I enjoyed Book #2, Deception quite a bit more than Book #1, Vengeance. My most favorite part of each story however has been the epilogues. They involve one particular guy in the group, and a disembodied voice over the phone. “You can call him, Al.”. **cue Paul Simon and Chevy Chase video please! 😂😂😂
The Story: 4.75 ⭐
The Narration: 4.00⭐
Overall: 4.38✨
I received complimentary audio copies of these books in exchange for giving honest reviews.💋
