I woke this morning to a call out from one of the authors I subscribe to. He asked for help for a family that had lost their home.
I’m unsure why this tugged on my heart so hard, but as with anyone who asks for help, if it’s in me to offer support, I will. I am hoping you will too. X is able to explain everything much better than I can so the excerpt below is taken directly from his email this morning. Below that I will post a picture and buy link for Amazon. Thanks for reading everyone. 💋
FROM COLE ‘S NEWSLETTER EMAIL:
Over and Over Again on sale for $2.99 until 2/25
💞100% OF PROCEEDS GO TO FUNDRAISER💞
Hey, y’all. So last week, a lovely person I’ve known in the book community for a while, Claudia Lezár, reached out to me about a charity she runs in the Philippines, Hilfsprojekt Kinder Alcoy. Kinder Alcoy helps local Filipinx children with food, housing, education, safety, healthcare, etc. If you know Claudia, too, you know she’s immensely dedicated to this cause, and makes these children her life.Well…last Thursday, one kid’s house burned down. The father, mother, and all five children survived…but they lost their house, the father’s tools for his carpentry livelihood, everything. They’re currently staying with relatives in a 25m2house, crammed in with many other extended family members, which is unsafe and unhealthy for that many people. And all they need is €1,000 to start over.Because of differences in local cost of living…what many of us pay for rent can completely reset their lives. If you want to help, Claudia has set up a GoFundMe page here (where you can also learn more about the lovely family)–but as further incentive, I’m also putting OVER AND OVER AGAIN, my most popular May/December romance, on sale for a week, with 100% of proceeds–including from KindleUnlimited page reads–being donated to Kinder Alcoy and this family. That includes if the GoFundMe reaches or exceeds its goal. All profits from this book from now (2/18) until the sale ends on the evening of 2/25 are 100% committed for this; I don’t keep a penny.Any excess beyond the GFM target will go to further getting this family back on their feet, and supporting other families served by the charity. So if you’ve been wanting to get your hands on this book but $6.99 was a little too much, pick it up now while it’s $2.99for a limited time, and help a family in need. |
Q. Why not sell the book at full price and donate the proceeds from a much higher profit margin? Or do it for 99c and sell more books? A. Higher price points mean fewer people will buy. With Amazon’s royalties set at 70% on books at $2.99 and above…at $6.99 the book might sell 20 copies in a week, making $98 for charity at $4.89 in royalties per book + whatever pages were read on KU. But at $2.99 it might sell 100 copies in a week, making $209 at $2.09 per book. (Estimated, it loses a few pennies per sale for delivery fees.) At 99c, though…Amazon’s royalty structure changes and you only see 35% of any sale. So while we might sell 500 books at 99c, there’d only be $175 earned at 35c royalty per book. So $2.99 is the best choice to offer an incentive to contribute, and find that balance that will let us raise the most for charity. Q. Why don’t you just donate the money? A. I donated what I could! I don’t have €1,000 lying around, sadly enough, so I contributed what I had–and now I’m trying to do the next best thing and offering what assets I can best use to help raise more money for this family: my writing/books. And reaching out and hoping that y’all will want to help, too. ❤️ There are over 10,000 people on this newsletter mailing list. Just $1 from each person could blow this fundraiser out of the water. Q. What if I don’t have time to read it all on KU during the sale period? It’s a long book! A. Read what you can, but only what you can. Do not skip ahead in the book just to create page flips. No, this is serious. Really fucking serious. This is not some tongue-in-cheek “teehee, no, don’t do thaaaaat.” Doing that is against KDP/KU terms of service, and you could get me in serious trouble even if you’re just trying to help out. Let’s keep it to honest page reads only. Q. When will the charity receive the money?A. ASAP. Amazon won’t pay me for this month’s sales until the end of April, but I’ll be able to use my royalty tracker app to calculate the earnings during the sale period and then Claudia and I will work together to pay the money into the charity as soon as the sale ends–and then when the royalties pay out in April will recoup the cost. |
