Making Rules & Rules to Ignore (Davey’s Rules Series, Book 6 & 7) By Susan Hawke

Narrated by Michael Dean

Making Rules (Davey’s Rules Series, Book 6)

Davey’s Rule #53: Daddy shouldn’t be afraid to let his boy top.

Blurb:

Before Davey came to work at Daddy’s Lap and began that crazy list of rules, his future bestie, Sammy, was already living happily ever after with his own Daddy-dom. From the moment they met over a gas pump to the day they were legally able to wed, leather Daddy Raphael Robustelli adored his linebacker-sized boy. This is their love story, as seen through a series of six short vignettes. Witness the moment they met, see the first time Davey came to the club, and so much more. This is a short 20k volume, filled with emotion and backstory for the entire series.

NOTE: This is not a full-length book and does not contain a new couple. This can be read as a standalone but will be most enjoyed by those who have read the series.

This is the sixth book in a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book.

MMy Thoughts and Review:

I Will NEVER Tire of Michael Dean’s “Daddy” Voice!💗

I am so thrilled Susan wrote Sammy and Rafe’s back story. I loved the Novie was presented as a series of vignettes, so the audience could move swiftly through and still get so much of Rafe and Sammy’s love story while filling in the gaps with the reader’s own memories from scenes in past books. Great Job!

Michael Dean was exceptional as always and I do not think I will ever tire of hearing him say, “Come here, baby boy.” Sweet Baby Cheeses That’s so freaking HAWT! 🔥🔥

If you enjoy a good series set around a community of people who love and take care of one another, Davey’s Rules is wonderful! Davey’s Rules in Audiobook form, with Michael Dean, narrating…EVEN BETTER! Book #7 – Here I Come! Woohoo!!!🎉

Rules to Ignore (Davey’s Rules Series, Book 7)

Blurb:

Davey Hendrickson doesn’t mind being forever single when he’s got his bestie at his side. It’s not that he wants to be single. He’s spent most of his adult life searching for his own perfect Daddy. Even if he’s not naturally submissive, someone that fabulous is obviously meant to be a boy… right? Over the years, he’s dated every type of Daddy imaginable but not one of them could come close to meeting the requirements from his ridiculous list of rules.

After losing his husband, Sammy Robustelli has learned to be strong while raising two children on his own. No matter what life has thrown his way, nothing seems too hard with his best friend and roomie Davey at his side. When the two friends learn that people believe they’re a couple, they can’t help but laugh. The very idea is a big joke… until it isn’t.

It only takes a few wake-up calls before Davey wonders what happens if a guy might be in love with the best friend he can never have. It could never work for a pair of boys in need of a bossy top, right? Except… maybe Davey doesn’t know himself—or Sammy—as well as he thinks.

This is the final book in a series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable “boys,” and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you’d want from a Susan Hawke book.

MMy Thoughts and Review:
A Perfect Ending to a Perfect Series

I can often see the conclusion long before it happens in stories. One of the reasons why I loved playing, “Clue,” when I was a kid. I must admit however, I did not see this one coming until book six. I just kept thinking to myself that I could not wait to see the person Susan would bring into Davey’s life.

Often what we think or imagine we want in life in no way measures up to the journey life takes us on. If you ask someone my age about life as opposed to someone the age of my twenty-something sons, our answers would be vastly different. For them life is about the destination and “arriving,” but for me, it’s all about the ride and the stops I’ve had along the way.

Davey has watched his friends, acquaintances, and patrons for years as they have come into Daddy’s Lap. He has made this exhaustive list of what he expects in and from his own Daddy, someday. Davey is currently the manager of Daddy’s Lap, but his gig there began as a bartender and was probably meant to only be a short stay. However, a decade has come and gone as have lots of drinks, and some very special people, yet Davey remains.

I’m sure Davey never saw any of this when he was studying Art at college. That part of Davey speaks to many of us and how our lives move and flow like water in a river, ever fluid, bending and turning never still as it gently glides over sand, rocks, and cliffs until it meets its final destination. Many who get particular degrees in certain fields end up going on to work in other areas. Never using that degree we fought so hard to get. Funny thing this thing called life.

Rules to Ignore could be placed in the slow-burn category, but it was more a “what the what” moment than anything for Davey, and fits nicely in the friends-to-lovers category. It seems, you can know and be close to someone for years and never consider them a certain way, but then one-day wake and have an epiphany of sorts. At that moment everything changes and you see that person in a whole new way. It’s as if you are starting again with them, and everything you felt about them is the same but different… more…complex…enlightened almost, and wonderful.

For Davey, this is amazing and terrifying. For me…Well, I just kept wondering, what the hell was gonna happen to that list of rules?!? That’s in there too, by the way.

The seventh and final book in the series (with a spin-off in the works- woohoo!), was a delight! Filled with laugh out loud moments, endearing family drama (pre-teens..need I say more?), close-knit community, and one man who earned the title of Diva-Daddy.

About Susan:

As an avid reader and big romance fan myself, I love sharing the stories of the different people who live in my imagination. My stories are filled with humor, a few tears, and the underlying message to not give up hope, even in the darkest of times, because life can change on a dime when you least expect it. This theme comes from a lifetime of lessons learned on my own hard journey through the pains of poverty, the loss of more loved ones than I’d care to count, and the struggles of living through chronic illnesses. Life can be hard, but it can also be good! Through it all I’ve found that love, laughter, and family can make all the difference, and that’s what I try to bring to every tale I tell.

I’m a happily married mom with one snarky teenage boy, and three grown “kids of my heart.” I’m more widely known for my mpreg writings as Susi Hawke; this new name is a departure from that. Whether written by Susan or Susi, the books are filled with that all-important love, laughter, and family I mentioned; the only difference is that this name has no male pregnancy. I look forward to sharing my stories with you, and to bringing more romance and laughter into this world that needs it so very badly.

I presented some “For Funsies” questions to Susi, so we as her fans could get to know her just a little more.

Thanks Susi, for being transparent, funny, and a good sport!

Funsies for Susan Hawke

Describe yourself using… ( a food, a book, a song, a movie, an animal, a drink, a place etc)
I’ve always said that Green Day’s Basket Case was my theme song. Seriously, do you have the time to listen to me whine about nothing and everything all at once? I joke, but I do talk a lot and am a chronic worrier with a hefty dose of anxiety.

Do you have any strange writing habits or superstitions?
I have to write in a linear manner from beginning to end. I can’t skip ahead and go back if I’m stuck. Instead, I’ll procrastinate until inspiration strikes and I can write the scene.

If you could create a new holiday, what would it be?
Stepparents Day. My stepmother was a fantastic lady who I miss every day.

If you were stuck on a desert island all alone with only three things, what would they be?
A phone that would never lose charge so I could read via the kindle app, listen to books with the audible app, and play as much diner dash as I wanted. A bottomless cup of iced coffee, and a comfy pillow.

What action would your name be if it were a verb?
Juggling, as in multitasking. I do that way too much.

What fantasy realm would you choose to live in and why?
I would love to live in Narnia because it would be awesome.

What fictional character would you like to spend an evening with, and why?
Lily Morton’s Jude from Lily Morton’s Deal Maker. I would give him all my rude/mean emails to answer for me and hang out with his family.

Which of your own characters would you Kill? Fuck? Marry? And why?
I’ve killed all the ones that need killing, and a couple that didn’t. But fuck or marry? Hmm… I’d say fuck Sammy from Rules to Ignore because he’s hot and knows what he’s doing and marry Corbin from How Not to Blend because he’s good guy and bi so I might actually have a shot there. Although, I’d probably be the one to be killed if Davey or Andy caught me with their men.

Would you visit the future or the past, and why?
Past, for sure! I would love to tell past me to stick with the gym, knock off the soda & sweets, and spend more time with my mom because I lost her too soon.

How does the world end?
In a ball of fire when the asteroid strikes.

Star Trek or Star Wars? Why?
Star Wars. The force is strong in this one.

What meds are you supposed to be taking?
Oh, my gawd… you don’t even want to know!

Who is your favorite author?
All time? Dean Koontz. Especially his early stuff.

What’s your drink of choice?
Coffee. I would mainline it if I could.

What’s in your fridge right now?
Ice coffee. Milk. Cold cuts & veggies. Eggs that are probably out of date.

What food(s) fuel your writing?
It depends and changes every few months. Right now I’m all about this vegan soy mocha iced coffee I found that doesn’t have too many sugars or carbs and tastes amazing.

Football or Soccer?
I’m an American, so those are two separate games for me 😉

Thanksgiving or New Year’s?
Thanksgiving. I’m all about family holidays and way too old to party in a new year.

You have been granted one day to relive over, do you change it or keep it exactly the way it was? Will you share?
Keep it. I went to GRL for the first time this past fall, and I’d happily relive any one of the days. They were all amazing. I knew I had a lot of readers but I really didn’t realize until people were excited to meet me that I mattered to them. It was an incredible experience that still makes me tear up when I think about it.
