Thicker Than Water

Blurb:
Outcast operative in the Supernatural Investigation & Crime Bureau (SICB) Callen Blackheath finds himself doing what he does best: defying orders and giving his boss a headache in the thick of an operation he shouldn’t be in. And there’s no way he’s walking away, not when the investigation has become deadly personal.
Needing to protect the only family member he has left, this wolf shifter will do whatever it takes to stop the blood farms and destroy the dangerous drugs the vampires will kill for. But he doesn’t expect Liam “Thatch” Thatcher, the head of a special task force team, to receive a bite that pulls him into the centre of Callen’s world.
Bonded by memories and blood, together they navigate the operation that has wider reaches than they could ever imagine. And when it comes to matters of the heart, Callen knows in order to win, he needs to risk it all.

MMy Thoughts and Review:

This was my first read by Seymour. As can sometimes happen when I start books from “new to me” authors it took me a while to find my groove. Once I got my rhythm I fell like Alice into a world of supernaturals who live and work side by side with mundanes.
The story begins like the shot being fired at the start of a race, and the book proceeds like racers would take off and it doesn’t slow down until the end of the story. A lot is going on in the story from drugs, espionage, trafficking, past child abuse/ trauma, experiments on weres, and tons more.
I always love reading a new author’s take on supernatural lore, and Seymour’s tale has to be one of my favorites so far. It was quite original and so off the beaten path, it was like stumbling on a secret road to an undiscovered treasure. I loved how she explained the way mundanes were turned and what happened when they were. The connection between them and the one who bit them. How things could go very wrong if all the elements weren’t in sync. I took that as Mother Nature’s way of saying “break this glass only in an emergency.” Doing so otherwise would lead to catastrophe…BUT, people be crazy y’all, so of course, there are gonna be people trying to force nature. That’s where the story begins.
If paranormal action adventure with a romantic subplot is your jam you are gonna love this story! It’s got lots of heat, but the flames are just far enough out of reach to leave you panting for water.
It is also a standalone, but Seymour is one smart cookie because it plays out in such a way that it could be turned into the perfect series.
